Geared for Guys!

welp... when i said, i was on "Island time" yesterday... i was NOT fool'in around!  LOL  I totally spaced my spot on Emily Herrick's blog hop for her new book Geared for Guys!  and even my boy Johnny has contributed to this hearty book!!  i'm so lame it hurts sometimes!!  :P

I really dig this book... being that i'm the only "lady" in my house and that these quilt are also quite "pimp"!  very urban with a modern cleanness to them.... these are definitely not your grandmother's quilt tops for boys, young teenagers, or men!... which is right up my alley!  wanna win a copy??!!

leave a comment here telling me your "guy's" favorite healthy lunch/ dinner!  this will be a great way to build up my recipes!! (ps... don't worry about the Vegan thing... i can change some ingredients around! )  LOL

then pop over to Generation Q for your next shot at winning this manly book!!  :D

X, Heather

  1. I don't have a guy. :( But I do have a dad who I've been thinking of making a quilt for so this would be great for inspiration!

My hubby loves Granola with frozen berries and yogurt--when I'm not home to cook, it's his go-to tried and true tummy filler!

  10. For lunch, my husband always, and I mean always, has a salad with some sort of protein either on it or on the side. He's a serious health freak.

  11. Impossible question - my "guy" is my 30 year old son these days and his favorite meal is pizza! When he drops in, I'll often treat him. He doesn't mind a healthy pizza (veggie) as long as fruit is not involved. No pineapple pizzas for this guy! He claims it's unAmerican. LOL

  12. Not quite sure that Lamb chops can be veganized but that's what I'd fix for a special dinner along with asparagus and roasted potatoes.

  13. We make yummy Spring Rolls(we call them Buddah Rolls).
    Rice paper(follow directions)
Fill with veggies of your choice....we like carrots, squash, cucumbers and peppers that have been cut in thin strips.
Add a mint leaf and roll up.
Dip in peanut sauce or sweet chili sauce.
    Did I say Yummy!

  17. This book looks fantastic!! Unfortunately, my "guy" doesn't eat as healthy as I would like, but a favourite quick and easy lunch is sliced eggplant, tomato, onions, garlic, and pappers topped with a bit of spaghetti sauce and feta cheese. Roast in the oven until veggies are cooked. Not quite vegan, but close and oh so yummy!

  18. I don't know if it's his favorite, but we frequently have greek salads - greens, tomatoes, onions, kalamata olives, cucumber, and feta (which you would leave off, I guess). I think this would be fabulous wrapped up in a tortilla or pita with a little hummus, too, for a fabu vegan lunch. In fact, I may need to bring those for my lunch on Monday. May be making homemade pitas tomorrow...

  19. No husband or boyfriend so will settle with an example for my. He drinks a glass of homemade chocolate milk mid-morning each day. He is an old cowboy (yep). This is enough to sustain him until supper yet not so much as to gurgle and bounce around in his stomach when riding (horse, tractor, gator, pickup - pick one). Why pick him? He's the guy I want to make a quilt. No one has ever made him a quilt and it is about time!

  21. My husband likes broccoli a lot and we have it with dinner a couple of times a week. A favorite of his is potato-broccoli soup flavored with a bit of Dijon mustard.

  22. My hubby takes his lunch to work and usually consists of ham and cheese sandwich with a fruit cup from different fruits we usually have in the house. That and his usual tons of water he drinks at work all day long.

  23. My guy loves all food except for smoked cod and watermelon. But he has a particular penchant for ordering chef's salads whenever he eats out. He says they are always different, but always good.

  24. I´m vegetarian so we´re eating much veggies here ;-) My favourite healthy "guy" meal is a Quinoa salad. My hubby was really hesitant when I first made it, but now he loves it. In fact he loves it so much he didn´t eat meat since February!!

  25. I've got my dad hooked on a village-style salad. Cucumber, cherry tomato halves, chunks of green or red pepper, and sun dried tomato and oregano dressing. I usually add feta, too, but you can easily skip it or add soy cheese instead. He'll eat a huge bowl or two and then isn't so likely to go for snackies later. He always says, "that salad's awesome." So simple.

If only I could get him to like hummus...

    ReplyDelete
  29. My guy introduced me to Fatoosh, which could totally be vegan if you wanted. The tricky part is finding sumac (I got mine in Turkey). There are a bunch of ways to make it, but I just toss chopped red onion, cherry tomatoes, cucumber, avacodo with olive oil, lemon juice, sumac, pepper and cumin. I don't do carbs anymore, but I used to add in pita chips right before I ate it.

  35. Wow that's a tall order...the most healthy thing my husband can tolerate is a tuna sandwich, be it from Subway or homemade. He actually doesn't add much mayo at all so his version is healthier than mine.
Other than that he doesn't eat fruit or non starch veggies, so I'd be hard pressed to come up with a better answer!

  41. Dont have a guy but a favorite healthy food tip is shredded carrot. I add them whenever I saute veggies like zucchini and onions or eggplant, they add a natural sweetness to tomato sauce and you don't even know they are there. BTW spinach is also great to cook in tomato sauce it basically disappears leaving the good healthy stuff behind.

He also likes quinoa and cous cous.

Albeit, not healthy.......the pesto is stick to your thighs good.
    Delicious.
