blog rolls?

they are crazy little things, right!... i have often pondered how peeps choose who they include on their blog rolls and why... have you? So... i figured that today, while adjusting my blog, i would share my theory on it.

my blog roll if full of the blogs i can "find" to read. it's simple and lazy! hahaha... i still have no idea how to work Google Reader ( yes, pathetically true! ), so if you are not on my blog roll... most likely i'll have no way to find you! how sad is that! i know i am missing out on some wonderful blogs too and i'm not very happy about it! ( insert sour face here! )

so my new plan... tell you all the truth about my inadequacies and maybe you'll leave your blog addy here in this post as a comment, so i can start following you! I'll be adjusting my blog roll to inquire lots more of my favorite designers and bloggers! i just love some good o'le people watching... don't you!

Anywhoo... hope you are all having a great start to your summer, i've done nothing too special ( and by special, i mean crafty ) so, i'll just leave you with a typical "Heather" photo until next time! LOL

me and the boy-toy sucking face at our barbecue last weekend!

cheers my kids!! Xo, Heather

I really think you should get over your fear of the google reader, it has saved my life, not only does it keep track of your favs, it also let's you search your bolgs, incase you forget who had that wonderful idea you saw three months ago.

  26. The Google Reader is so easy, even I can do it, and I'm old. It's much easier than having a blog roll, because it tells you when a blog you're following or just lurking/viewing has updated. No need to keep clicking on someone who hasn't updated in a day, week or month. Come on, you can do it. I have 4 blogs, family, photos, quilts and recipes.

at the moment i'm rather quiet, but i blog over @ http://littlegirlquilts.blogspot.com.

  42. I try to add my favorites to my blog roll, but there are just so many darned good blogs out there! So, I keep ones on there that I find myself wondering, "what's that person up to?" if I haven't read them in a while. Yup, yours is one of them. In addition to your crafty genius, I also love your spunk - reading your blog makes me smile and often laugh out loud. One thing I need to do is go back and delete from my rolls those who don't ever post, that way, I should have more room for my new-found loves.

  43. I can't figure out readers either... so my blog roll serves the same function. I also come into blogger to see who I follow every few days and find posts there. I have other blogs saved in my favorites. It's a whacky system, but it sort of works.

  55. I started using Google reader about 3 weeks ago and Love it! It lets me know all the new posts that I need to look at. I have found so many cool things that I might not have seen in my Blog Roll alone. Blog Roll only shows the newest post. Say a blog has posted 2 really great projects in the same day............You will only see the 2nd one on your blog roll but will see both in Google Reader.

Google Reader is also great for Non Blogspot blogs. It keeps track of all your RSS feeds no matter if the blog is Blogspot or not.

YOU CAN ALSO USE GOOGLE READER TO FOLLOW RECIPE WEBSITES! I use Google Reader to follow KraftFoods, Taste of Home, etc. So I never miss a new recipe!

To get to your Google Reader, you don't have to download anything, it's built into your blog's Dashboard. At the top of your blog page, you will click on "Design". Then at the top click on "Dashboard". Scroll down to the middle of the page, where it says "Reading List". You will see ALL the blogs that you follow in a "General" fashion. Now, if you want to read the posts in a larger format, want to see how many new Blogspot posts you haven't read yet, & also want to see all of the Non-Blogspot posts that are new, click on "View in Google Reader".

In Google Reader you can "Star" posts that you like & want to refer back to later. You can search for "Key Words".

In Google Reader, if blog A shows that they have 3 new posts, as you scroll down & look at the posts, that 3 will disappear showing no new posts for that blog. I LOVE THIS FEATURE BECAUSE I NEVER MISS A POST AT ALL. You miss lots of posts only using your Blog Roll.

    I hope this helps.

I didn't even have a blogroll until recently. I had a few friends asking for blog suggestions so that was an easy place to direct them. I have a few more I want to add. It's pretty much a list of my very favorites.

  88. Well, I don't blog, but I follow several (like 149 on the Blogger)(ie - some good o'le people watching...) So, speaking on the follower side, I like it a lot. I like it because I can see if there are new posts without actually pulling up the blog to see if anything new is posted. I usually end up pulling the blog up if I want to make a comment or see more information, etc.
I like to see what other blogs the bloggers have on their blogrolls too. I've found new ones to follow that way.
It's probably information overload with all the following I do. I've got more things I want to do and great ideas from the brilliant bloggers than I have time for. Maybe when I win the lottery I'll be able to retire early and actually get more of those ideas into reality. In the meantime, I will continue to follow and like.
    Take care!

Sounds like something they serve with mystery meat in the school cafeteria...?! ha, no seriously, never heard of it : / I was hesitant to set up google reader at first, but like many others have commented, it is actually FABULOUS! I'm still building mine up, so whenever I find one I like, I just copy the url and paste it after I hit "Add a Subscription" on the left hand side up close to the top. It's all magic from there!
