the sweet taste of crow.

MMMMmmm.... how sweet it is to eat crow! i love the tangy taste of "i told you so!", it's kind of like one of my favorites. WHhatT! NO it's NOT! i hate it, unless i'm serving it! hehe... but,... i am a big girl and i'll own my { wrong's }... thus, Greenfield Hill by Denyse Schmidt. I really, really didn't see this one coming. i truly thought, "OOohh... gross, WTH??"... until it arrived at my door, and then i started singing a different tune in my head! at first... i thought it was sweet music, until i remembered all the smack i'd been talking and describing how i just couldn't possibly see this fabric line being the next big ( Modern Treasure )!!! how wrong i was. thus, here i am... eating a plate of big o'le nasty crow. touche. YOU know who you are, you were right ( which, yes... means i was wrong. i hate that! ) and for everyone else... it's a legit line, better start getting yours! ;) and if these pillows weren't enough... to sell ya... check out this! Fantastic!

and guess what!... the Lovely Miss Kerri is giving you all a chance of experiencing this heavenly line in a FQ set give-a-way of both { blues & Reds } colorways to ( 2 ) lucky winners!

Guidelines:

1. leave a comment telling me which fabric line surprised you with ultimately... being fabulous!

2. Blog about this give-a-way!

3. Get it done by February 3rd by 9:00pm PST!

Good Luck!! ;)

xo, Heather

  1. I am really surprised not by a line, but by a color (can that count?) I HATE purple usually, but with Hope Valley, I thought, 'this isn't REALLY purple', but now with sugar pop, the new meadowsweet, and a few others at my LQS, I have to admit, as an accent color, I do actually like purple!

Thanks Kerri and Heather for sharing!

  2. Ooo! I love both! and the pillow is stunning! I haven't found an ewww to wow collection yet, but I'm working on it ;) hee hee!
    Thanks for the chance!

  3. I didn't think much of It's A Hoot when I first saw the line, too bright with to many colors I thought. Then I see all of these amazingly cute blankets in it and realize the colors go together great. Ya, that is why I will never be a fabric designer :)

    ReplyDelete
  4. I think you did a great job with these pillows. But... I'm still really blah about this fabric line. Somehow it seems so 90's to me.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Blue. Simple as that. Delicious cool and calming. Can't get better then that :D

    ReplyDelete
  6. I'm ususally not too taken with black/white lines, but end up buying and loving them in the end.

    ReplyDelete
  7. I bought some civil war charm packs because they were on offer, when they arrived I wasn't too keen on them. I decided to do a disappearing 9 patch quilt with some cream fabric and voila!! I love it. Thanks for the chance to win

    ReplyDelete
  8. I think it would have to be this line. I saw it in person and just loved it! I love the red. Tks for a chance to win!!

    ReplyDelete
  9. I can usually find a least a few fabrics in each line that I like. Some of the Kaffe fabric is overwhelming but put it with the right solids and they really sing. These fabrics may be the same!

    ReplyDelete
  10. OK, I'll say it...Innocent Crush totally did not do it for me for the longest time. Then I saw the circle quilt in progress over at Bijou Lovely last week and...color me surprised! It is so pretty!

  11. Kristen just sent me the green colorway and I to understand. I was talking tons of smack about this line as well.

I can;t wait to create something with it though it's so beautiful and the colors are fantastic..

So seriously woman...how many pillows are now in your house ?? hrm,.,,,,

  12. I can't keep up with fabric lines - love the red here though. thanks for a chance.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Your give away is on my blog! : )

    ReplyDelete
  14. I can't keep up with fabric lines either - especially because I get to see very few of the new modern ones in person. I do love the red/pink/purple version of this line though.

  15. Well then serve me up a big ole steaming plate as well – actually I think I’m just a late bloomer when it comes to Denyse because I never like it at first and then I end up realizing I was an idiot and buy it when it’s almost all gone. So, maybe I should just take this as a lesson and go buy it now and pay homage to the wisdom of Heather! ;)

  16. I can't think of any surpringly good fabric lines right off the bat, but I know I've had several episodes of buyer's remorse where the computer colors looked much better than the real thing.

    ReplyDelete
  17. actually this was a surprise for me too. When I first started seeing pics of this line it was like the last two you posted. You know a mosaic of parts of the fabric and I thought...oh dear that's no FMF or Hope Valley. Then someone else blogged about it - again with a giveaway and showed some real photos of the fabric in stacks and laid out and I though OMG that looks so different. Those mosaics do it no favours.

Another line that was better than I ever imagined was Freebird by Momo. My neighbours gave me a charm pack for my birthday and flicking through it I was like 'wow - this isn't how it looked online?'

  18. Love these fabrics! Thanks for the chance to win them.

I had heard about and seen some advertisements for the Japanese Taupe line of fabrics. I was at a LQS one morning, just browsing through and came across some and absolutely LOVE them! They are a little higher price than I like to pay, but they feel like butter! I own a few FQ's and add to them every chance I get. YUMMY!

  19. I'm feeling that way about Innocent Crush. At first I was just "eh" about it. Now that I've seen it in action, I'm loving it!

    ReplyDelete
  20. The red and brown colourway is giving me heart palpitations!

    The pillows are FAB-U-LOUS!

    I have my fingers crossed.

    ReplyDelete
  21. it is so funny that you are sharing this with us today! i just spent most of yesterday searching etsy for the best price on the hope valley line (i need to make that fabric dollar stretch, you know?!). i now have all 8 prints in all 3 colorways coming my way (along with the "hills 'n' hollers" pattern, and i think that i may now need the "single girl" pattern, too!). i didn't know until yesterday how much i actually loved that line!!! i'm still 'meh' on this one, though, but your pillows are lovely! xoxo

    ReplyDelete
  22. I have a total Tufted Tweets obsession. Was the first fabric line I actually paid full price for as soon as it came out (through Kerri funnily enough) rather than sitting it out and waiting for it to be reduced a year later and then snapping it up. I think that might make me a cheapskate. Oh well!

    ReplyDelete
  23. Forgot to say I just blogged about the give-a-way and also how I thought it was all Meh when I first saw it.

    ReplyDelete
  24. hey, lady...i need to know your thoughts on the moda bella solids and the freespirit designer solids versus kona. i am thinking either light gray, blue, or green for my hope valley quilt.
anyone else want to chime in??
    :)

    ReplyDelete
  25. Innocent Crush did not do anything for me at first. I thought it looked kinda yucky eighties BUT I was wrong, soooo wrong! I am loving it now, that's how it goes right?!
I would love to win this, it will be a long time before Greenfield Hill will be available here. Thanks for the chance!

    ReplyDelete
  26. I'm getting suprised by greenfield hills. At first I didn't care for it but now that I'm starting to see finished products I'm falling for the blue colorway!

    ReplyDelete
  27. gorgeous, gorgeous pillows heather! and they look so fabulous on your bed! i admit that i was surprised by this line too, but now that i'm making a quilt out of it, i've definitely changed my tune! (thanks for linking! can't wait to show off the quilt when it's done!)

    ReplyDelete
  28. Momo Odyssea surprised me...I am making a toddler quilt with it now. Thanks for the chance to score this beautiful fabric...I don;t have any Denyse yet :)

    ReplyDelete
  29. For me, I think it would have to be the last two Denyse Schmidt lines. I didn't think that I would like Hope Valley, but then ended up buying a fat quarter pack when it was getting hard to find because I kept seeing great things being made with it...and now the same is true of this line. I was like you and didn't think it was a great line for me...but now I'm seeing all these great things being made with it and am wondering if I'm wrong...

    ReplyDelete
  30. well, I'm not sure I'm sold on Greenfield Hill yet - I like the B&W prints, but I'm not so sure about the big floral. It usually goes the other way for me - I fall out of love with a fabric line!

    ReplyDelete
  31. I wasn't bowled over by this line either, until I saw this. http://materialobsession.typepad.com/.a/6a00d8341ca0b953ef0147e1fc7a54970b-pi Denyse Schmidt meet Material Obsession. Genius meet Genius. Earth shattering! Now I get it.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I'm with you on this line. I, too, thought "meh". But to see it made up into something reminds me of WHY I'm not a fabric designer at all let alone a successful one. Obviously, Ms. Schmidt knows her business. The pillows are so lovely in her fabric.

Reds? Blues? They both have my attention now.

    ReplyDelete
  33. My budget is not allowing me to purchase fabric so I don't really look at any lines. This one gets a thumbs up from me, particularly in the blue colorway.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Tufted Tweets is a line that made my jaw drop when I saw it online. I have not seen it in person, yet. I want to buy it so bad, but don't want to be disappointed that the colors look better on the computer than in person. Although, don't be suprised if I break down and own some by the end of the week ;)

Love your pillows! Thanks for the chance to win!

    ReplyDelete
  35. I wasn't taken with Innocent Crush when I first saw it, but then it was popping up everywhere done up differently and I HAD to have some! I'd love to have some of Denyse's new line!

    ReplyDelete
  36. city weekend has surprised me. didnt think it was anything i needed...not the case anymore.
i love greenfield hill. all of it.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I don't think my post went through. I didn't think much of Innocent Crush when I first saw it and then it was all over the Internet in various sewn and quilted items and I fell in love with it, had to buy it. I would love to win some of Denyse's new line for sure!

    ReplyDelete
  38. I am still not really sure about this line, but then I haven't seen it in person either. I do LOVE your pillows though so there may be something to it. I just can't see it grabbing my heart like FMF (especially the buds).

The Sunkissed line I thought was cute when I saw it online, but when my LQS had a fat quarter bundle and showed me, I was drooling! It was not for sale yet, so it was not very nice so I am just waiting to get my hands on some of that. They only have some precuts locally so far.

  39. My mum hates anything too girlie or flowery; she's neutral all the way, so its been hard making anything for her. I was rapt when I showed her my Rural Jardin quilt I was working on & she loved it!! It will now have a new home with her...rats! I haven't seen Greenfield Hill yet but am loving what people are making with it.

  41. I felt the same way....Katie Jump Rope is my all time fave...so this was quite a departure. But I ordered some last week...the Dogwood color and I LOVE it. Especially the voile...it is so sweet and lovely. It would be striking in a simple quilt or lovely in a summer skirt or dress. This line is very calming and sophisticated. I can't wait to use the small pieces I ordered....I think I will be ordering more. Best, Mary

  42. hmmm, i'm not really sure. I'm thinking maybe hope valley. i love it. I remember being pleased with ginger blossom (i think that's the name), but that was ages ago. thanks for the chance. I haven't wanted to buy this without seeing it first, ya know??

    ReplyDelete
  43. I'm really new to this, so I don't have a disappointment as far as line goes, however, I'm really unsure about the new "it" color of honeysuckle. Though, honestly, I've never seen a pink honeysuckle before. They're all pretty white and yellow where I'm from.

Thank you for such a wonderful giveaway. I love this line. My favorites are the blue and green, but I love the red too. *L*

    ReplyDelete
  44. I love the blue line and your pillows are beautiful.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I am surprised the the colour GREY as become so popular - even I love it! It looks great with the blue line in your cushions!

    ReplyDelete
  46. I also just blogged about your giveaway. Hope someone I know can win!

    ReplyDelete
  47. At first I didn't like Hope Valley, but now I own almost the entire collection. The colors are sublime. I would so love to win this, I got to see it in person at her studio sale and haven't yet bought any!

    ReplyDelete
  48. I was never too keen on the 30's fabrics when they first came out. But I've grown to really like them.

These fabrics are beautiful and such a generous giveaway. Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  49. The red grabbed me when I saw it but those cushions I may need to change my mind

    ReplyDelete
  50. When I saw Love by AB I was really disappointed but then when I saw some of the patterns by them selves I really liked them and have bought a few.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Random generator please please pick me. Love this line too but ... want to hold off until after taxes are filed ... What surprised me was how beautiful HRoss' far far away II is for quilts (considering the fabric weight). Thanks for the opportunity to enter.

    ReplyDelete
  52. I wasn't too thrilled with this line either when it first came out. After seeing it on a few blogs, I ordered some and it is soooo much prettier in person! And more modern looking than I had originally thought.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I'm leaning toward lovin' the pinks. I surprise myself by saying that because pink is out of my comfort zone. I loved seeing your pillows--sometimes being out of our comfort zone is rewarding!

    ReplyDelete
  54. hmmm... I haen't been following fabric for too long. I guess the fabric that I remember surprising me was Moda Zip A Dee Doo Dah. I had never sewn anything other than doll clothes and tote bags when i decided to make a quilt. For my mom. She was with me and saw that line and was so tickled that it completely matches her living room. TOTALLY not my colors... but this was for her. So I bought charm packs and made my first quilt - a tossed nine patch, and I love it! Anyway, I love both the lines and your pillows are fabulous!

  55. I didn't like Soul Blossoms at first, and now I want lots of it ;) hehe

  56. I love them both but blue is more my color. Thanks and thanks to Kerri too.

    ReplyDelete
  57. To be honest, I wasn't all that keen for Innocent Crush at first. But I'm crazy for it now!

...which reminds me, I should probably stock up before it starts to disappear...

    ReplyDelete
  58. I've been surprised about the sudden use of gray in so many of the fabric lines. Thanks for the opportunity to enter your great giveaway!

    ReplyDelete
  59. Heather Ross' Far Far Away II surprised me as thought the lineny fabric would not work well in quilts. Boy was I wrong. It is beautiful. Thanks for this giveaway - love this new fabric line too.

    ReplyDelete
  60. I ordered some it's a hoot to make a quilt someone asked for. Totally surprised me how much I love love love that line. Great small prints & large ones. Fun colors as well. Love those pillows!

    ReplyDelete
  61. I've learned over the years that fabric I once loved and had to buy is now ho-hum. I now love the fibrant colour of so many of the new collections. This is one of those collections that I think would make a stunning quilt.

    ReplyDelete
  62. I think the last big fabric surprise I had was Innocent Crush. I was awfully {meh} about it until I saw it in person, and then it was love! Great pillows, as always :)

    ReplyDelete
  63. Trying not to look at new fabric lines as I am on a forced fab diet, too much over indulgence of late. Anything predominately purple would be a surprise for me since it is a color I rarely work with for any project. nanasew at gmail dot com

    ReplyDelete
  64. Surprised, by Maypole. I thought it would be too bright, too much, too everything. But seeing it together is beautiful, like lots of flowers blooming together. It's an older line, but it was a goody.

    ReplyDelete
  65. I didn't love Innocent Crush until I had some in my hands and now I love it!

    Your pillows look great!

    ReplyDelete
  66. I was also surprised by Maypole - someone gave me a couple of charm packs, and I used them in a ministry quilt - and it was beautiful!!

    ReplyDelete
  67. Most recently I was surprised that I like the new Ty Pennington line. I wasn't all about it and then I bought some for a swap project and now I really like it!

Both the reds and the blues you are giving away will work for projects at my house!!!

p.s. - have you seen Portlandia on IFC yet? :)

    ReplyDelete
  68. This is probably sacreligious, but the Hope Valley fabrics just didn't "float my boat", but I used them to make a hexagon quilt and it is lovely!

    ReplyDelete
  69. Blues always catch my eye, as does black and white. Your pillows are beautiful - I'd like to make some just like them!!

    ReplyDelete
  70. The fabric line that surprised me with ultimately being fabulous was Rouenerries by French General for Moda. This just wasn't me, my colors or my style. But every time I saw it, I went back to look again and now I have some that I'm going to use to make a quilt.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Well for me both Hope Valley and this one didn't really do it for me when I saw them online, but seen seeing them made up and in the flesh they are so much better than I thought! Don't think they will ever have quite the following of FMF, but still really good!

    ReplyDelete
  72. I think it was Mendacino. When I first saw it and had the chance to buy LOTS of it I passed it up because I thought it was a little weird. Now I love it and kick myself for passing it by!! Thanks to you and Kerri for the chance to win.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Ok, so I blogged about the giveaway too. I like either colorway, but if I had to choose I would choose blue. Here is the link to my blog

  74. Im warming to this line but not overly enthused. I LOVE however Moda Bliss! I need me some of that! Also I'm having some fun with a little Sherbert Pips charm pack.

    ReplyDelete
  75. I haven't always liked the orange and turquoise colors together in some of the lines but now think they are spring looking. I love both the red and the blue collection in this new line.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Love the reds! thanks for a chance to win

    ReplyDelete
  77. hope valley really surprised me. i didn't think i'd like it, but i'm so glad that i bought the entire line and made a beautiful quilt with it. everyone loves the hope valley quilt, and my friends fight over who gets to use it when they come over for out weekly girls night in =P

  80. Yumm they are both very pretty if I had to pick it would be the blue..I really have to say Kaffe fabric always has me at a twist..I don't like it on the bolt but I love it when it is in a quilt or tote or something. Thanks for sharing with us. I would really love to win one of them.

    ReplyDelete
  81. I would say the Origin line for me. At first it DID NOT appeal to me at all and now it is FABulous!!!

    ReplyDelete
  82. I've never been too thrilled by Sherbet Pips like everyone else seams to be - maybe if I saw the fabrics in person I'd love it.

  86. I'm pretty new to quilting and I'm pretty much a fabric line virgin (so far have just been collecting fabrics from the store that go together, not even realizing there were lines). I've been swooning over lines online though and just recently bought my first fabric for a quilt all from the same line - Origins. I love it, and while it didn't surprise me too much, I'm sure I'd be surprised by A LOT, I just think those little 'drawing' looking pictures of all the fabrics do them much justice. Can't wait to explore fabric more!!

    ReplyDelete
  87. I like the blue the best. You made beautiful pillows!

    ReplyDelete
  88. About 6 months or so ago I was feeling the same way you felt about Greenfield Hill about FLEA MARKET FANCY!! Can you believe it?!! I thought "This is nothing special! I so don't need it!" Then I decided a couple of the prints were nice, and THEN I fell in love. Went CRAZY and bought/swapped for ALL of it. I LOVE it (as does everyone else). I am thinking that I won't judge a fabric to quickly anymore!! I love the blue colorway of GH!

  89. I'm not much of a fabric line person. I just see a fabric, and POW! (Wow, Batman!), I'm hooked. And I'm generally more hooked by a color than by a fabric line. Reds I love. And aqua is my latest favorite. But fabric lines? No, sorry to say. dmj53(at)hotmail(dot)com

  90. I love the blues, the pillow is beautiful.

  92. Greenfield Hills. I am a blue person but the greens are really, really nice.

    ReplyDelete
  93. When I first saw Soul Blossoms I didn't understand why everybody was loving it - may be the bold prints & the bright colors were the reason. But when I saw a lovely quilt made of the collection I just fell in love :)

    ReplyDelete
  94. I hated this line, I hate this line, well maybe a few from this line are ok. Wait a minute, I really love that quilt Denyse made with this line. Oh no, I think I really like this line. Now where am I going to get the money to buy this line. I hope I win this line!

    ReplyDelete
  95. Well, I had to eat my own sauteed crow over Hope Valley. I just couldn't see that chartreuse ever making it, or the small, detailed prints. WRONG-O. Send me this line so I can have another helping (of crow, that is), cuz so far I'm still not feelin' it!

    ReplyDelete
  96. I had the same reaction the Greenfield Hill. It was like " Really- is that it? but then I found myself thinking about it, and going back for another look and then wondering how i'd use it then I found I was in love. It's different, it's old, it's new, timeless, it's intelligent, and is comfotable just being itself with nothing to prove.

    ReplyDelete
  97. Because I abhor orange, I thought I'd run from Chrysalis (from Moda), but instead I find myself picturing every pattern I come across in Chrysalis. So I am going to give in, buy some charm squares and a jellyroll, and go with it.

    Thanks for the giveaway, girls.

  98. Castle Peeps really suprised me. I thought it would be very juvenile but I ended up loving it. Thanks for the chance. I didn't start quilting until after the Heather Ross and Flea Market Fancy craze so I missed out on all of that! Thanks for the chance.

    ReplyDelete
  99. I ordered in a bundle of Moda fabrics to share amongst my French crafty friends (we don't get Moda over here in the mountains)and nobody wanted the 'Happy' charm pack..not even me. I eventually used it to make a play quilt for my little boy and those bright colours and funky patterns..well, they just won me over!!

    ReplyDelete
  105. I felt that way about a couple lines-- most recently being Innocent Crush... I had to work with it to love it. And now I do! Also, an old Moda line called Nouveau. I wish I could get my hands on more.

Thanks for doing the giveaway. I love Denyse Schmidt, but I have to say, I felt the same way you did when first seeing this line. It wasn't what I expected.

    ReplyDelete
  106. I at first did not like Innocent Crush - but after seeing it cut and put together - totally different! Love the pillows! thanks!

  119. You know, at first I wasn't too sold on Kate Spain's new "Central Park." Weird huh? I must have been in a bad mood that day or something because the more I see it now the more I want to use it! How did I miss the awesome colors the first time I looked at it?

  120. When I first saw Tufted Tweets I thought 'What on Earth?!!'. Then I saw lots of creativeness in blogland and now I have my own little bundle to be made into something cute :)
    Thanks for this giveaway.

  121. I'm not crazy about the Kona solid line, but that's because I just haven't worked with solids before I'msure. They should really set off prints well I think.

  122. Both are great colors! I really like the blue/purple color scheme best ... so calm, serene :) Thanks for the chance!

  123. I'm new to quilting and sewing so I haven't found a yuck to yum fabric line yet, but I will keep my eyes open.

Thanks so much for the giveaway and chance to win.

  124. I'm with you, Heather. When I first saw Greenfield Hill, I felt
meh. But when I saw Ashley's quilt and now your beautiful pillows, I'm liking it. Especially the blues. Thanks to Kerri and you for a chance to have some. It takes a long time for popular fabrics to come to Canada if ever. Unless you're in Toronto or Vancouver.
    gratefully, Luba

  125. I was totally loving on this collection when I first saw it...especially the dogwood colorway! I was just pricing some of it before I saw your post. I'm still pretty new to this whole game so I can't say that I've been really surprised by a line yet as I'm still in a state of amazement with all the fabrics I've found online. Before I thought my LQS was it for fabric I can't believe what a dummy I was!

  126. Was definitely shocked my Giddy by Sandy Gervais. I'm a member of the Fat Quarter Shop's Layer Cake Club and wasn't that stoked about the December delivery... thought it would be much too girly.

I absolutely adore it! Making a great quilt from it and ended up ordering more of the fabric just yesterday from the Fat Quarter Shop!

  127. I didn't like Arcadia when I first saw it. Now I'm holding on to my honey bun for something special!

  128. Ya know... I really didn't think much of the Hope Valley line as I saw it as a few prints here and there at various quilt shops, but when I got 16 of the fabrics to play with in a quilting bee, to make Dresden Plate blocks, I totally fell in love with the line. I love how her colors and textures all work magically together, and I fortunately found a fat quarter stack of the entire collection a couple of weeks ago! I have a feeling that I would love this collection too if I saw it all together. Thanks for the chance!

  129. Hope Valley. When it came out I thought I could pass. Then I saw projects and had to have it. Now I can't get enough!!

  130. I like the red one; it really catches my eyes! Fabulous! Yes, that's the word to describe it. Thanks for the chance.

  132. I really was surprised that everyone was disliking this fabric. I, personally really like it, especially the dogwood.
glad to see that you've changed your mind!

  133. I wasn't sold on the Origins line until I saw a charm pack in mt LQS then I loved it! Thanks for the opportunity to win!=)

I'm a bit embarrassed to say, but initially, I really didn't get HR Mendicino...but now I love the mermaids. Oops.

  137. As a dyed in the wool Fabric-aholic, I have NEVER EVER met a fabric that I did'nt like,or eventually learn to LOVE after awhile! It's really hard for me to find a color I could'nt work with in some way!

    ReplyDelete
  138. I loved Lizzy House's Castle Peeps, but for some reason I wasn't a fan of the blue colorway. Eventually though I realized my folly of not buying the blue FQ bundle, but at least i was smart and got the other two!

  139. I got a crush with Sherbet pips. The colors, that little girl on scooter is amazing! tks fr the great chance! xo

  141. Sherbet Pips wasn't my favorite when I first saw it, but since I've seen some things done with it, I like it better. I like the red and blue in your giveaway! Thanks for the chance.

  142. I wasn't to thrilled with Freebird by MoMo. The browns and purples didn't quite do it for me. However, a friend gave me a layer cake and after spreading it out, I found that the colours did go together very well. I guess we shouldn't judge a fabric line until we get it in our hot little hands. lol

  143. All denyse Schmidt takes a while with me, I mull it over and then I fall for it and obsess

    ReplyDelete
  144. I love the fussy cut blue rose on that pillow! As for what collection I was surprised by...well, I don't really shop by collection so I don't follow them, so I'm not really surprised by them...

    ReplyDelete
  145. I haven't found a line that hasn't amazed me forsay. I was at first a little turn my nose up at the reprints of 30's designs, until I actually saw some in real life and now I love them.
Thanks for the chance to win!

  146. I got surprised with Momos Odyssea.... having loved 'wonderland' big time, Odyssea seemed soooo dulll.... but when I received a FQ in a swap, I was sold... again... and now the 'kelp' one is a new favourite!

  150. I did not like Arcadia when it came out...this was a few years ago, then someone gave me some fat quarters and I loved it. But by then I couldn't find anymore. So now I am a little more observant.

    ReplyDelete
  151. I'm embarrased to say that I was disappointed in Heather Ross's Mendocino when it first came out- can you believe it??? Now I'm making a quilt with it!

    ReplyDelete
  152. I like the new retro colors that include white and gray. I'm not familiar with Denyse Schmidt fabrics (my LQS doesn't carry them), but gosh, these sure do look pretty. Amy Butler's "Soul Blossom" is starting to grow on me. Thanks for this chance to win.

  154. I have a hard time with large florals (any company or designer) but am amazed at the ingenuity of people like yourself in making them sing.

    ReplyDelete
  155. This fabric line did. I agreed with you. I thought it looked depressing and yet I really like your pillows.

    ReplyDelete
  156. For me it's Kansas Troubles, feels to me dark and depressing. But then I see something wonderful someone's done with them and it's "oh, wow I love that."

Thanks for the chance, I really like your pillows.

    ReplyDelete
  157. This one def didn't do it for me at first but now that I see some projects I'm loving it!

    ReplyDelete
  158. AB Love has actually really grown on me. And Soul Blossoms is, too, as I see more projects popping up on Flickr.

    ReplyDelete
  159. I know it's hard to believe, but Soul Blossoms just wasn't there for me. The pics from market didn't do it, the pics on blogs-nope, the swatches on seen online-no way! Then I got my fingers on some and OMG 8-D what awesome eye candy! Can you wear fabric out stroking it?

    ReplyDelete
  160. I too am surprised by this line I really did not like it but I love you pillow. Who knew.

    ReplyDelete
  161. I'm still not convinced about Greenfield Hill, maybe I need to meet those fabrics in person!..My most drastic change of opinion had been with Amy Butler's Love...now it think is pretty cool!

    ReplyDelete
  162. The red is shocking. I love the stun factor, but the pillows are divine.

    ReplyDelete
  163. I blogged it here

  164. I guess I haven't thought of a yuck to wow line per se - but recently I realized that I want to work with solids...and I don't have a single piece of solid fabric in my stash! (except some linen and whites) I guess I thought they were boring without realizing it and now I want to use them in everything!

    ReplyDelete
  165. I really love the blue colorway. I would blog about this but I don't have a blog.

    ReplyDelete
  166. Believe it or not, I actually didn't like FMF at first!

Your pillows are fabulous, and would look wonderful in my living room :D

    ReplyDelete
  167. actually i wasn't impressed by katie jump rope at first, but then gradually came to my senses.

    ReplyDelete
  168. There's not really a line of fabric that I've not liked at first and then had my opinion changed. For me it's been the vintage sheets prints. At first I thought really?, seriously? But then I received some and experienced a wave of nostalgia and...I want more!

    ReplyDelete
  169. I am always falling for a fabric line after its not available anymore,
Mendocino from Heather Ross was that way for me and now I can't find enough of it!

    ReplyDelete
  170. I really disliked the Origins line when it first came out, but once I saw it through my DIL's eyes, how much she liked the colors, writing, then it started to grow on me. Thanks for the chance to win!

    ReplyDelete
  171. Actually, I didn't care for Parisville the first time I saw it. The Horror! I know. I think it was all the pink and purple (least favorite colors). Now, I'm in love with Parisville and I'm using pinks and purples for my Block-a-palooza quilt. Sewing has definitely expanded my opinion of colors and patterns. :)

    ReplyDelete
  172. This happens tome all the time. I suppose I just need to learn to buy it instead of thinking about it. I like the red and I think I'm going to have to buy the green colorway (dogwood)I just want to see if my LQS will offer it first.

    ReplyDelete
  173. This may be the popular answer, but the first glimpse I caught of Greenfield Hill I thought, really? Really, Denyse?? I guess after the colorfulness of Katie Jump Rope and Flea Market Fancy this Greenfield Hill palette seems so muted. Stepping back now you can see Hope Valley was even a step in that direction and now I find myself really wanting this palette! Denyse is a MASTER of scale and contrast.

    ReplyDelete
  174. I was shocked when I actually held City Weekends in my hands. I thought the colors were too faded and the overall effect was a bit ditsy. Not so! The periwinkle glowed and the hand of the fabric was aazing. Live and learn, my friends, live and learn.

    ReplyDelete
  175. I was with you on this line, but now that I'm seeing the finished products, I'm in love - esp with that rose print. And honestly, Soul Blossoms took a bit to grow on me...but it did! Thanks for sharing!

    ReplyDelete
  176. I have never really liked the darker civil war prints ....like Kansas City Troubles. Whenever I see it I wonder who could like that drab fabric! Seriously. But I was browsing on Jan Patek's blog and saw her Summer Nights quilt. Yes, dark, yes antique-y looking. But beautiful. I was surprised that, "hey, I just might like this old look!" I haven't given in to the impulse yet though. :)

  177. Fabric lines that have surprised me at Greenfield Hill, Hope Valley, and Innocent Crush. Not a huge fan of any of them when they first came out, but after seeing them in action I changed my tune.

    ReplyDelete
  178. The Mr. Fix It line surprised me. I didn't think I would like tool fabric, but I ended up really loving what Dan Morris did with the different prints.

    ReplyDelete
  179. I'm not experienced yet to have a specific line that surprised me, but I'll say that I can be surprised how a fabric that is boring or doesn't match quite right can still fit right in and compliment a project!

    ReplyDelete
  180. I was suprised by Momo's Wonderland line. I saw it online and didn't think it was that great. Then a friend bought me a fat quarter set and I loved it in real.

    ReplyDelete
  181. is that a FLOWER??? A GIRLIE print?? i just fainted... ok got up.... checked again..

yep... a flower on Heather's pillow.. the earth must have stopped rotating.. let me check...

    ReplyDelete
  182. sorry, I'm still not feeling this line but I also felt the same way with Hope Valley....
but I didn't like Innocent Crush either when AMH first brought it out but I saw it the other day in person and now--ummm...I have a crush on Innocent Crush!
