I was super jazzed to be a asked to participate in the Quilt Remix Blog Tour sponsored by C&T Publishing and miss Emily Cier!!! I've been a great fan of Emily's work for years now and have collected many o' many of her single patterns from her Etsy shop! Now instead of buying them one by one... i have a whole book of them! I love my copy and here are some fast favorites and a little more info on her book!!

XO, Heather
I am living in Sri Lanka where we are having torrential rains in some parts of the country - 21 dead and one million people displaced. I have no idea of what we could do - other than to help in whatever way we can.
ReplyDeleteThat pinwheel quilt is FANTASTIC! And how would I handle the rain? I'd play with lots of warm, sunny fabrics, eat cookies all day, and blog! ;]
ReplyDeleteBattle the rain?? I think the best thing to do is to just give in, and QUILT, QUILT, QUILT!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great bunch of quilt designs! I bet the whole book is amazing. When it rains here (Los Angeles) we just stay inside and watch it fall with a hot cup of cocoa.
ReplyDeleteInvest in some gorgeous but super chic rain boots and cute umbrella of course! A girl can always look stylish in the rain.
ReplyDeleteI would relish the rain - we're in a serious drought, and desperately need some! Send it down here, and I'll go dance in it! LOL!
ReplyDelete(Then there's always umbrellas!)
First comment... lucky???
ReplyDeleteI would battle the rain by staying inside with a cup of tea and some fun project.
I love the rain so I don't typically battle it. I do like to listen to the rain at home though.
ReplyDeleteNo rain here! Only Snow, and lots of it. But if it were raining here I'd play with lots of bright sunny fabric.
ReplyDeleteI'm in the UK and it's wet and very windy so I'm just going to sit at the sewing machine!
ReplyDeleteI'm in the midwest and we have snow up to our knees (to put it mildly). Guess we haven't had rain for about 6 months. But with rain I could leave my car outside and it would get a little cleaner than it is right now. The book looks wonderful.
ReplyDeleteHi!!
ReplyDeleteThe rain is very boring... And we can't do anything... We can try to dance, even if it will rain, we'll are more happy maybe!! :)

What wonderful ideas in the book. Last days we (in Germany) have also rain, rain and some more rain. During such days I try to battle my sleepiness - I design new quilts, appliques, play with my cats and listen to good music. This really works :)
ReplyDeleteRain? What rain? This book looks awesome!
ReplyDeletePut on some bright red wellies and a yellow mac and go for a walk with some ducks !!! umbrella optional !
ReplyDeleteLooks like a fantastic book... Hmmm, battle the rain? Stay in and read a good book, quilt, knit....like we are doing to avoid/battle the snow!
ReplyDeleteWe are just about through our rainy season and because I grew up in the part of Canada that has snow I truly love the rain. When it is a really rainy day well I make a date with my sewing machine and quilt fabric and we have a party!
ReplyDeleteRain?? I wouldn't mind rain. It's so cold here, all we have is snow. So, the best way to handle the rain is to either go "stash hunting" at your LQS or online. Thanks for the great giveaway. I would be so happy to win!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm in the North West too! *UK that is*
ReplyDeleteWe are having a lot of rain here too at the moment. I've quilted, I've cooked & I've painted the kids table & chairs - anything to avoid going out in it!
Well, here in Hawaii we have just had a huge storm & are expecting another by Monday. I stay indoors & ready for the small creatures than look for refuge in the kitchen! We had a tiny frog yesterday & a millipede this morning. I'm expecting the ant invasion at any time!
ReplyDeleteThe mix of traditional blocks arranged in new ways is wonderful. Would enjoy winning this book. Thanks for the opportunity and congrats to Emily.
ReplyDeleteOur area of Florida is in a drought so we do happy rain dances if it rains and thank the Lord.
Stay inside and quilt! Thanks for a chance to win.
ReplyDeleteJust relax, a BIG cup of tea, pet yr fabrics, and quilt, quilt!!! tks fr the chance.xx
ReplyDeletepaulaheredec(at)gmail(dot)com
Singing in the rain! :) or quilting ;)
ReplyDeleteBest wishes
hmm... when it rains here, we (my daughter and I) usually hibernate and bake and quilt. I'm thinking some sunny fabrics would brighten up the day!
ReplyDeleteI would take a nap! But, that's probably only because I'm a bit on the sleepy side right now anyway. Maybe you should go find an empty field and get mud on your tires!
ReplyDeleteWell, where I live here in Canada, we are battling the snow with shovels!!! You sure can't do the same with rain water... I'd suggest you just stay indoors and keep busy with creating to your hearts content!!
ReplyDeleteLove that pinwheel quilt!!
ReplyDeleteJump in puddles, it's seriously still fun!
Being from the North-northwest, I can tell you that it's pretty soggy up here in Vancouver, too. At least it is warm. Get a pair of Hunters and a massive umbrella, or stay inside and sew! THanks for this faboo giveaway. (and no matter how hard it keeps raining, we are still so much better off than Brisbane, or Sri Lanka right now - those poor folks).
ReplyDeleteThose are beautiful. I'm very intruiged by the Ohio Start quilt! I battle the weather by hiding in the craft room :) But our weather has been very mild this year. Thank you for the inspiration and the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't fight it, just stay inside and quilt. And hope you don't get flooded (poor Sri Lanka and Australia).
ReplyDeleteThanks for the chance to win the book.
there is no such thing as bad weather, only bad preparation for the day, right? use all those wonderful laminates on the market and make some fabulous rain jackets with nice big hoods! thanks, this book looks amazing
ReplyDeleteHeather!!! I moved from the NW to the midwest this past spring. I miss it!!!!! SO when I visit in a few weeks, I'm going to drink up the rain : )
ReplyDeleteTake your Vit D girly!!
rCoffee, chocolate and good book!
ReplyDeleteWe battle with thunderstorms here in France, I thought I knew what a thunderstorm was until I came to live here, never seen lightening like it, and the thunder vibrates through the house, the rain comes down in sheets......the shutters are all closed to protect the windows and we stay nice and safe inside. Linda
ReplyDeleteI live in Snohomish and don't actually battle the rain, I just go with it! The hardest thing for me is to take advantage of sunny days...there's no room for "I'll wait til tomorrow!" Ya gotta drop everything and take advantage of nice weather!
ReplyDeleteNo battle in central Texas. We have been dealing with a drought for years. Today we have just a fine mist of drizzle.
ReplyDeleteOoh I just LOVE what I have seen so far about this book. It's so great that she goes from beginner to advanced. Someone not quite confident of their skills as a quilter can start with something from the book for beginners and then once that helps build their confidence, they can continue in the same book and with the same awesome patterns onto more advanced quilts. LOVE that.
ReplyDeleteHmmmm how would I battle the rain? Ummmm I am the 'lucky duck' who is going to win this book so I'd be perfectly happy in the rain. Ducks love rain, right? LOL
Great book!
ReplyDeleteI live in the Northeast so we battle a lot of snow here. However, we do get lots of rain in the spring. I prefer to put on my funky LL Bean wellies and stomp in the puddles with my kids!
I'd battle the rain by having bright colorful curtains that I could just draw closed and shut out the sight of rain. Kathie L in Allentown
ReplyDeleteThat's easy ~ just stay inside and quilt all day! Great patterns. They're very unique!
ReplyDeleteThe rain is ok, but it's the wellies and puddles that are great fun! LOL That's a beautiful book, I'd love it to come live in rainy UK!
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't have to "battle" the rain I love it. I love walking in it, watching it and daydreaming and saving it in old garbage cans to water plants with when it gets too hot to rain in the Summer. It's a great excuse to stay in jammies and feel the luxury of doing nothing sometimes.
ReplyDeleteI love summer rain and take walks in the warm rain or sit and read, listening to the rain. Cold rain is something else all together! A fireplace helps, giving a feeling of cosy and warm - and helps with the humidity! I have a really hard time with grey days, so I have lots of lights in my quilt room and kitchen. I play great music and get absorbed in what I'm doing. My daughter just moved from an extremely dry climate to an extremely humid climate for school. I bought her a really sturdy umbrella for the really windy days, a clear plastic umbrella for not so windy days (so she can see where she's going), great rainboots, and great outerwear. I gave her a beach-inspired quilt and lamps for her dorm.
ReplyDeletei would wear my awesome rain boots that have pink coffee cups all over them!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the chance to win :) I lived in Portland, OR for 2 years and I found that in the winter, the best option was to get out to the mountains where the rain is snow and in the fall/spring (that is, when it was still warm), just go out and play in it. Then again, staying inside to quilt isn't a bad option either!
ReplyDeleteYeah.. I love this blog tour. I love how everyone highlights different portions of this new book. as for battling the rain, exercise. And then continuing on what you both do so well - inspire.
ReplyDeleteHow would i battle the rain> Hmm...Stay in sewing! I'd pull out bright cheery colors to work with to brighten up the room!
ReplyDeleteSandy A
I'm from the rainy Northwest too, Vancouver Island. I love to stay inside and quilt, read blogs, read books, etc. Love to win this book!
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't battle the rain. I would stay inside and sew!
ReplyDeleteI've been wanting a pair of red and white polka dot rain boots for a while now. If I had a matching umbrella, I'd be set for some serious window shopping in my favorite downtown shops (fabric stores included)! I can't wait to take a look at the new book.
ReplyDeleteI love the pinwheel quilt! I'm not a lover of rain...but when it does, I stay inside and QUILT...or at least read a good book!
ReplyDeleteLOVIN the pinwheel quilt a little too much, I think - it makes me squeal every time I spot it somewhere!
ReplyDeleteRain? I'd like to know how to deal with the sunshine, because I rarely see that over here ;)
Hilo (Hawaii), is "the rainiest population center in the US" (we're too small to be "rainiest city"). Rain here = spectacular waterfalls, lush tropical greenery, and lots of orchids and other flowers, so we don't fight it. But I prefer to spend rainy days in the sewing room rather than splashing around outside.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to win this book, it looks amazing.
ReplyDeleteEven with the rain, I think you need lots of light, so surround yourself with Ott lamps and sew.

Every teaser I see just makes me want this book that much more! To battle the rain I bake! Cookies, pies, and cakes, oh my! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeletei would battle the rain with an awesome set of wellies and a fab coat! I would need those to make it through the rain to the fabric store to pick up something to make me feel a little more perky!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway!
I live in the deep South and we get lots of rain. I don't fight it I just go with it and enjoy it!! Such a FANTISTIC giveaway thanks.
ReplyDeleteGreat book! Rainy days are best spent watching British mysteries while hand stitching my quilt bindings.
ReplyDeleteThrow on some rain gear and battle it with an umbrella in hand or stay inside and use it as your excuse to quilt more!! Thanks for the chance to win!
ReplyDeleteWhen it rains in Maine I get out my bright fabric and start working on a bright quilt.
ReplyDeleteI am not sure I would battle the rain. I like the sound of the rain on the window. Of course, I do not live in the Northwest which receives more rain than here in the Southeast.
ReplyDeleteI'd battle the rain with a good book or maybe some quilting! :) Or put on my mud boots, and go puddling. My youngest still loves to go puddling in the spring when the snow melts - and usually ends up with a booter or two.
ReplyDeleteLove the book! I too live in the NW. I don't know that I battle the rain more than just tolerate it. I do prefer our rain over the dry freezing temps we were getting last week in PDX. I get grumpy in 25 degree weather!
ReplyDeleteI live in the rain too, on a windy island in Alaska. There isn't any way to really deal with it, ya just gotta accept it. Forget about umbrellas and invest in a gore-tex jacket with a hood.
ReplyDeleteRaincoat with a hood! (Great laminates on the market right now. No sense using an umbrella if you have to get in and out of a car because you'll end up wetter than if you had used no rain apparatus!
ReplyDeleteWish you could send Mississippi some of your rain - we've experienced drought conditions this year!
Battle the rain?? Why do a sun dance of course (as opposed to a rain dance). It doesn't rain much where I live so I kind of relish the rain when it comes. Now cold on the other hand....
ReplyDeleteThat pinwheel quilt is great! I would battle the rain by buying some fantastically cute wellies and running around in them!
ReplyDeleteIf I lived in the NW, I'd move to Arizona!! (at least in the winter)
ReplyDeleteI live in Brisbane and our city has just been destroyed by floods. IN fact, 75% of all Queensland has been titled a disaster area. All we can do is clean up and help as many people as we can.
ReplyDeleteI'd stay out of the rain and pore over this fabulous looking book, dreaming of future projects if I were lucky enough to win:) Thanks for the opportunity.
ReplyDeleteOh, I miss the rain! I would probably go out for a walk. Then snuggle up with a book - probably reading to my kids.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway!
I love the rain! I remember one particularly rainy day in PDX where I got completely soaked walking from my high school to the Tri-Met stop! Now with two young children I embrace the chance to act like a kid and jump in the puddles! I love the pinwheels quilt and the lonestar quilt! I'm adding this book to my wish list just in case I don't win.
ReplyDeleteI'm livin' in Western Montana ... and atleast we don't have to deal with your rain issues!! I'd probably paint a couple of rooms bright happy colors, have several Ott lights for "real" light and drink margaritas now and then in fun sassy colored glasses with funky little umbrellas ... beach themes? :) Thanks so much for this awesome giveaway!!
ReplyDeleteDon't battle the rain...embrace it. Yeah, easy for me to say in the snowy Canadian north. At least with snow as precipitation you can go out and not get wet. I love Emily's designs and would be so stoked to get her book. Thanks for the contest.
ReplyDeletePut on some boots and splash in the puddles like a kid... or hang out in the sewing room with a cup of tea and an Ott lite!
ReplyDeleteAs we say in Canada, "At least you don't have to shovel it!" Thanks so much for a chance.
ReplyDeleteHere, in SoCal, we don't get much rain, but if I lived in the NoWest, I thinks I'd move! Kidding, but I have no words of wisdom.
ReplyDeleteI would get me some fun rain boots and have fun splashing in puddles with my kids. Then again, rainy clouds are also a great day to curl up under a nice quilt and read a book.
ReplyDeletePull out some summery fabrics & sew some sunshine!
ReplyDeleteI live in the desert, where we *need* rain, so I wouldn't battle it at all. But what I would do is grab a cup of blueberry bliss tea and quilt, quilt, quilt! :)
ReplyDeletehmmm, i'm not sure how i'd deal with it. probably just stay indoors. and if i had to go out get a nice rain jacket and cute rainboots. love everything emily does!
ReplyDeleteI sous spend time sewing, of course!
ReplyDeleteJust put your coat and hat on an GO!!! If you can't do that, just stay inside and quilt!
ReplyDeleteI'm in the Northwest, and to battle the rain, I put the lights on, the fireplace on, and fire up the Juki! Get to work on those UFO's!
ReplyDeleteSometimes when its raining if its warm outside i will crack my bedroom window just to hear it bang on the rough . Puts me to sleep :)
ReplyDeleteOoo, I'm loving that pinwheel quilt! Rain? I alwaysstay in, put on my comfy thick socks, blankie and a good book and hide on my fave chair! Perfect way to wait for the sun to come back out :)
ReplyDeletehugs, margie
If it wasn't too cold outside, I would give in to the rain...put on boots, leash up the 3 dogs and run through some puddles! If it was cold I would curl up on the couch and watch an old movie.
ReplyDeleteHi, Heather: Emily's spin on traditional patterns brings a smile to my face. Thanks for participating in the bloghop. This has been fun. Snow is what we have to deal with these days in Canada and I stay inside and keep warm next to my sewing machine. Christine from Ontario
ReplyDeleteOh, I'd love to win!!! And to battle the rains, I'd make a DARLING laminated cloth raincoat to be super cute in :)
ReplyDeletecandy at fiber dot net
I believe most of us are battling some kind of bad weather. Here in the south, we just had about 8 or so inches of snow and it has absolutely paralyzed us because we don't have equipment to handle it. Not used to it! I think we all need to thank God for our good fortune, those of us not being flooded or living with tsunamis of any other devastating weather, and beg Him for relief for the world. The weather has been absolutely wild of late! Maybe there is a message in it for all of us. God be with us. So I say, prayer is the answer.
ReplyDeleteYou might melt if you go out in the rain, so definitely cuddle up and read or quilt! Thanks for the chance to win this fun book!
ReplyDeleteDo it the dutch way: furnish all cafe's and restaurants gardens with huge umbrellas and heaters and party!!!
ReplyDeleteTwo ways. One, dress up in a raincoat and boots and go for a short walk and two, stay in and hibernate until it stops. There's loads of sewing, knitting, reading to be done here.
ReplyDeleteI'm in SoCal and we have had more rain in the last 4 weeks than in the last 2 yrs. So we lit fires and huddled around it with hot chocolate and cookies!
ReplyDeleteI live in Brisbane and there has been terrible flooding in the area and a lot of Queensland has also had flooding. Fortunately we are high and dry so no water went through our house. There a few blogger organised appeals happening so there is a lot of support.
ReplyDeleteThe only way to battle the rain is a comfy bed, a good book, and a 1 pound bag of peanut m&ms. I think it's obvious if I lived in the NW I'd be as large as a house.
ReplyDeleteWe don't get as much rain here in Spokane. However, when there are 6-8" of snow on the ground and then it rains enough to make slush and then it freezes...well, it's time to stay safe inside and read quilty blogs and sew :)
ReplyDeleteHi....embrace the rain!!! Allow the positive ions to help you make beautiful QUILTS!!!! Thanks for the giveaway chance
ReplyDeleteQld is having serious problems too... I'm not much help! I would love to win this book!!!!!!!!! Xx thank you !!
ReplyDeleteI live in SW Florida and we haven't had much rain in the last few months. I know during the summer when we get lots of rain the kids love to go outside during the rain and just run and splash.
ReplyDeleteRight now it is too cold for playing in the rain So I guess I would stay inside with a cup of homemade hot cocoa and listen to the rain fall. Hubby loves to nap during a rain storm.
I really admire the way Emily is using traditional patterns and remaking them for modern quilters;I think Emily's color choices are calm yet very hip!. amazing!
ReplyDeleteGive love to the rain. if it's light, thank it for cleansing the earth and making the air smell so darn good. If it's deep, well, make a boat out of a sled and grab some brooms to use as oars! Whatever the amount, get outside and make some memories!
In Houston it just floods so my rainy day behavior is just to stay inside cuddled under a quilt reading!
ReplyDeleteI feel bad for anyone battling rain right now - with the floods in Australia, and Sri Lanka. So I say support the relief funds for those people and stay in and make some sewing kits to send overseas! thanks for the lovely giveaway.
ReplyDeleteI am a prairie girl Heather so I am not sure how I would cope with rain- right now we are trying to keep on top of the snow which has fallen steadily for most days over the last 10 days.
ReplyDeleteThe weather seems to be challenging all over the globe. I think the best thing would be to dress appropriately when you go out and stay in when you can. Thanks for the opportunity to win such a nice book.
Regards,
Anna
I battle the rain by making lots of hot chocolate! =)
ReplyDeleteWe lived in Seattle for about two years. We loved it there except for the traffic and the fact that all of our family lives in the eastern USA. We were surprised to discover that it hardly ever rains hard enough to bother with an umbrella. Plus the beautiful weather during the summer makes a little rain easy to put up with! Thanks for the great giveaway!
ReplyDeletei live in hurricane country - one battles rain with lots of awesome fabric - scissors and thread do not need electricity
ReplyDeletemany thanks for the chance !
When it's raining, I like to go to the snow!
ReplyDeleteAll I've got to say is, it's hard to tell it's raining if you're busy quilting!!! So play with fabric and pretend the sun is shining!!
ReplyDeleteI think that I would battle the snow with some beautiful bright colored fabrics and quilts all through my house!
ReplyDeleteWe have a wet season, but nothing like what you get there. Generally if there is a good rain, I just go out in it and have a good ol' time. But we don't normally get rain in winter. Mostly it's summer. So for these days...I'd cuddle up with some hot chocolate/tea/coffee and a good blanket and sit in a chair and watch it. :)
ReplyDeleteThis book looks awesome! When it's raining I love to spend time indoors playing with fabric, sewing and quilting or course!
ReplyDeleteChristine
http://thefabricjunkie.blogspot.com/
I would love to see more of the book! I think if I were you, I'd buy the cutesy rain boots I could find and splash away.
ReplyDeleteWhen I moved to Chicago from Southern California, I learned to take out your cutting board first thing in the morning, slice an onion on it and leave it on the counter. Then, keep your PJs on and go quilt all day. When your hubby and kids come home, they will think you have dinner all planned. When it gets too late to make dinner, order pizza!
ReplyDeleteI rarely ever rains here in Hawaii where I'm at but when it does the waterfalls are beautiful. And the sun seems so much brighter and happier when it does appear.
ReplyDeleteA cold, rainy day means make soup or chili and then play with my fabrics. I'm still in love with those pinwheels dancing on the fabric.
ReplyDeleteI would battle the rain by putting on music and quilting away.
ReplyDeleteI just say, "Eh, I'll dry. I won't melt."
ReplyDeleteA rainy day? A good book, a chick flick, an afternoon of sewing, an evening catching up on wonderful blogs!! Thanks for the chance to win this awesome book!!
ReplyDeleteSince we're in a serious drought here, we would love to have lots of rain. I would just go where I have to go and get wet!
ReplyDeleteHmmm...battle the rain eh? Is sewing all day an option - just think of all you'd get done - lol! Great giveaway!
ReplyDeleteBattling the rain is a losing battle in P-town. May as well sew, sew, & sew some more. That book looks AWESOME.
ReplyDeleteIt's a losing battle to battle the rain in P-town. May as well sew, sew, & sew some more. That book looks awesome. (I commented once, but not sure if it went through, if so, pardon me, I'm an idiot.
ReplyDeleteI live in Sydney Australia. We're in summer here but are having the wettest on record just about. It is warm and very, very humid. Most un-Sydneylike. However we are blessed compared to the poor Queenslanders whose houses are under water and whose loved ones have been washed away by the floods. Three-quarters of that state is under water and Queensland is bigger than Texas so that'll give you an idea of the devastation.
ReplyDeleteMany blogging quilters (me included) are holding auctions to assist in the Premiere's Flood Appeal because what they need now is cash to rebuild. if you put Queensland Flood Appeal Auction in any search engine I'm sure find hundreds of ways you can help.
Thanks
Ladies
With gum boots and a bright yellow rain coat a la Paddington Bear.
ReplyDeleteThe quilts are so great. I would handle the rain by snuggling up with some fun cozy things, check the internet out, do some laundry, be happy not to goto work and quilt a lot.
ReplyDeleteWhen it's raining cats and dogs in IL , I drag out one of my UFO's and finish up an old quilting project :)
ReplyDeletelove the book!
ReplyDeletemaybe put on some warm cloths, some galoshes and have some fun. when that gets boring start the sewing machine up and get it humming away!
thanks for the great giveaway!!
Rainy days always make me want to snuggle up in bed with a good book and a nice hot drink. However, if I lived where you do that would probably make me fat, lazy, and unemployed, so you might not better try my remedy. (smile)
ReplyDeleteYou have a cool blog!! Handling the rain? Well, up here in Canada we've just had 12 more inches of snow and it's -26 C (that's -12 F) and rain would be quite lovely compared to this :) I say just stay inside and keep sewing - the rain won't bother you a bit! Thanks for sharing your inspiration and the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteEmily has some of the greatest patterns... so true. :)
ReplyDeleteAs far as the rain... when I lived in Taiwan, they had some seriously cute umbrellas! I think those need to come to N. America. :)
I battle the rain with coffee like most Portlanders. I do love my new raincoat. I'm excited to see the book.
ReplyDeleteI am in Australia - not in the Queensland floods, but my state of Victoria is getting hit quite hard too! This is our Summer!! Usually I don't let rain stop me from doing anything - it's only water - but when its super heavy - I go blog reading!
ReplyDeleteWith an umbrella, boots, hat, waterproof mascra and water resistant watch.
ReplyDeletemelodyj(at)gmail(dot)com
I would stay in and sew all day. Might even call in sick.
ReplyDeletePuddle jumping with my 3 and 4 year olds makes all of our Pacific Northwest rain much more bearable. All the green trees are a nice benefit, too. :-)
ReplyDeleteI'd put my indoor plants out for a good drink and clean and then head back inside for a bit more time at the sewing machine. Thanks for the chance to win this superb book.
ReplyDeletei live near the equator, hot and humid all year round and I love rain! It's cooler and I can stay in and sew!
ReplyDeleteI'm sitting at my computer right now as the NW has inches of rainfall. I'm listening to the rain pound on my south window and beat on my skylights. I battle the rain by organizing and developing my new projects, surfing the web, sewing, quilting and being creative.
ReplyDeleteWe don't have much rain here, not enough to worry about so...me I like the rain. If possible stay in and quilt!
ReplyDeleteI like the shopping online for fabric idea. Although to beat the rain I would find your most loved, snuggly quilt, find a cozy spot and curl up under it. Works for me.
ReplyDeleteI live in QLD and at the moment sitting on the roof is pretty popular. If you can't laugh you cry LOL.
ReplyDeleteI used to live in a place where the average rainfall was 300 days a year - it's where I (happily) started to quilt 10 years ago - and that's just what I've been doing this summer in Queensland. I've (not so happily) also been glued to the TV watching my fellow Queenslanders devastated by floods, I'm definitely one of the lucky ones - think I'll take a break from quilting next weekend to help with the cleanup.

ReplyDeleteMy husband battles the rain for our family - clearing the storm drains and digging little trenches. When the rain is a little more light-hearted, I do fine by rolling up my jeans to "high-water" levels and trying to avoid puddles! Thanks for the book giveaway - it looks delightful.
ReplyDeleteI am in the northeast and we are battling snow.
ReplyDeleteso my thoughts are buy good rain boots,a great umbrella and a slicker with a hood
The rain...buy fun rain boots that make you smile and keep your feet dry and whip up (read that as quilt up or knit up) cute toppers to adorn them. Thanks for the peek into the book.
ReplyDeleteLots and lots of coffee and then get on with it. No boots and no umbrella, it is usually only misting a bit! I have to laugh after spending half of my life in the NW I really never used an umbrella until moving to Upstate NY where when it rains is a downpour. I actually miss lovely Pacific NW overcast days.
ReplyDeleteI like to stay in and read or sew when it is rainy. If I have to go out I wear a hat or cap to keep rain off my glasses AND use an umbrella.
ReplyDeleteIt's all about making sure your feet are dry!
ReplyDeleteI live in the NW as well - we don't get as much rain as where you do but when it rains I love it. Crazy I know.... I have a covered patio so I love the sound of rain on it. So my advice to deal with the rain is to embrace it. Stay inside when its cold with a quilt & a good book or some hand work. Sit outside when its warm with some iced tea & something.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy - thanks for the giveaway!
Battle the rain? I look forward to that just-washed shine on all the trees after the sun comes out. It's usually a good day to stay in and get my craft on! I love this book--such great ideas.
ReplyDeleteOh, what I would not give for rain. Am living in the great white north and it has been -20oC for almost a week and its hard to stay really warm here. The rain in summer is also still very cold. I found myself outside last summer working during a rainy farmer's market and was so cold when I got home I needed to jump into the tub for a hot soak. Long story short, I used too much oil laced bubble bath and was seriously worried if I'd be one of those people found in my tub since I could not get out. Now I opt for long hot showers...lol
ReplyDeleteAnd a huge pot of tea and dreaming about quilting on cold and rainy days.
My method of handling the rain is to stay inside unless I absolutely have to go out. That said when I go out I have a good pair of Hunter wellies and a strong umbrella...I'd still rather stay inside though!
ReplyDeleteI would start with a sewing party at home! If I had to go out, cute rain boots, and a Lily Pulitzer umbrella ----- too cute!
ReplyDeleteNo rain for me (I'm in Canada) just lots of snow! We usually stay indoors to keep warm, cook some yummy homecooked meals, watch movies and I love to quilt after the kids go to bed! Thanks for the chance to win such an incredible book!
ReplyDeleteI lived in southeast Alaska for 10 years--150 inches of rain a year. I battled the rain with good rain gear.

ReplyDeleteThanks for the chance to win:)
Sun lamps and nice cup of tea :)
ReplyDeleteI'm in the Northwest as well. Oy, the rain at times... These are some things I do at times: turn on all the lights in the house and crank up the heat and play summer music, or... bake... or head to the mountains and enjoy the snow... or shut the shades, head for the sewing room and sew on bright colors.
ReplyDeleteEmily's book looks great!
Day 1: Rejoice and play in the puddles with my 3 yr old.
ReplyDeleteDay 2: Watch the rain inside my house wishing for it to end soon.
Day 3: Hibernate and generally be miserable until I see the sun again.
With a good book or a sappy movie and a quilt on the couch. Oooh, and don't forget the cocoa! Rain is best from inside the house! Thanks formthe giveaway!
ReplyDeleteWell, we don't get all that much rain down here in Texas, so for me the best way to battle it is to avoid it! Stay home and sew instead :)
ReplyDeleteYa just don't battle rain,
ReplyDeletewe just go with the flow here in mid-MO.
Hugs
I live here in the Northwest too ~ I find the rain wonderful, so battling isn't something I think about.
ReplyDeleteI lived in Southern California for a long time and Thailand before that. It's so wonderful living in such a wonderful place as Portland!
Why fight against what you cannot change? Just go with it and stay inside and sew!!
ReplyDeleteThis looks like a fun book. Thanks for directing me to her shop - I'd not found it before. Mmmm, battle the rain: good tunes, fun quilting, maybe a bit of hot chocolate when all else fails?
ReplyDeleteYou don't battle the rain, you become one with it -- LOL. Perfect quilting weather, and you gotta love all the gorgeous flowers in the spring and summer! I'd share my umbrella with you any day, Heather :D
ReplyDeleteI would battle the rain with my rain boots and polka dot umbrella. :) I love the pinwheel quilt...so pretty!!
ReplyDeleteI love the rain...preferable to the snow we are getting here :)
ReplyDeleteI would wear big boots and stomp in all the puddles!

I'd make the kiddos and I some super cute raincoats, get us some rain boots, and go jump in the puddles! :-)
ReplyDeleteYou play in the rain of course or sneek inside, hunker down and do some serious sewing...that's what I used to do when I lived in Vancouver!

Awesome giveaway!
ReplyDeleteAnd, ppsshaaw. You don't battle the rain, silly girl, you DANCE with it. As you shake your head and think I'm kidding, I regularly go out in downpours, clad in a twirly skirt and galoshes, and dance my way from car to parking lot while all the poor saps are standing huddled under Target's entryway. Just love the rain, and it'll love you back :)
I would give in, put in a movie and finish up some quilts!
ReplyDeleteI'd love to enter your wonderful giveaway!!
ReplyDeleteWe have been snowed in all week - I wish for a little rain to clear off our roads :)
Thanks,

To cope with the rain I would probably just go with the flow! If it didn't rain then I wouldn't live on the 'Emerald Isle' (Ireland) but in a very dusty brown one!
ReplyDeleteLiving here in the temperate climes of the UK the rain never seems to go away, so life goes on, but it is a good excuse to stay indoors and craft. I am following this blog tour in the small hope of winning this book!
ReplyDeleteLast night my hubby and I battled the rain and went on a double date! Dinner at Montage and dessert at Voodoo Donut -- fabulous!
ReplyDeleteYikes, well, I live in FL, where we do sometimes have torrential rain, and my key to dealing with the rain is two-fold - good music and good fabric!! :)
ReplyDeleteMy favorites are the Ohio Star and Pinwheel. I'm looking forward to seeing this book.

ReplyDeleteI think I would get a cute umbrella and fancy boots and make the best of stomping in the puddles.
ReplyDeleteAs a SoCal California transplant living in Clatskanie, I am learning about dealing with months of rain. I quilt, plan sunny activities for summer, do lots of reading, and remind myself not to "not" do things just because it's raining.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway. I would dearly love to win this wonderful book!
Enjoy it! Out and splash! :-D Then get in, light candles, make tea, fetch quilt and a book or something nice and creative and keep enjoying.
ReplyDeleteWhen it rains I like to stay inside! I swear it rained in Sydney all 31 days of May last year and I invested in rain boots and a rain coat because an umbrella was no good! This is a wonderful book, thanks for the opp to win!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to make that pinwheel circles quilt. I've been lusting after a fat quarter bundle of all the Anna Maria Horner voiles and think it might be the perfect pattern to showcase them.
ReplyDeleteI grew up in Vancouver, also known for it's rain and drizzle. My advice is just to grab a gorgeous umbrella (I'd love to try making one from all the laminates we've been seeing), put on your best heels, and ignore it!

I am living in Australia where Queensland and Victoria are both suffering floods. Queensland is the worst hit state with 15 people confirmed dead and 53 people still missing. Quilters are organising raffles and auctions with all donations going to the Flood Relief Fund. One way to battle, not so much the rain, but the devastation it has caused.
ReplyDeleteI would battle the rain by staying inside all day...quilting of course!
ReplyDeleteRainy days are great for curling up on the sofa with a quilt to bind and a great book to listen to.
ReplyDeleteI love the Storm at Sea setting - so creative! I'm going to have to add this book to my list to look for soon.
"If you can't beat it, join it"...that is, getting a fabulous yellow slicker and some cute wellies and dance in the rain ;D
ReplyDeleteI'd battle the rain with fashionably cute galloshes and hot tea!
ReplyDeleteI live near you in the Pacific Southwest of Canada. I battle the rain by quilting inside and going out to the yoga studio for exercise and relaxation. Thank you for the giveaway!!
