yay! July is my month in the [ bee ] - autiful virtual quilting bee!! and i have been a little more than excited waiting to start on my Matroyska Spider Web quilt! to make thing super easy peasy for my girls helping me out next month... i put together a little tutorial on how i put together my blocks. my favorite tut for this block is the infamous tutorial from Quilt-it , but i thought a few more pictures of the process couldn't hurt for anyone who's attempting this quilt block for the first time!
Please enlarge ( click on ) any photo to see my instructions more clearly!! :)
i hope this helps ladies!! and if i can answer any questions... feel free to email me :)
Wow, and I thought it was going to be so complicated! Thanks for sharing this... I can see this being a great way to use up some scraps I have been saving :)
Great tute, Heather, and I LOVE the fabrics you chose - can't wait to play with them. I'm glad you'll have all our help with your blocks cuz I am 19 blocks deep into my own spidey right now and it is about to drive me nuts!
This is a fun version of making this block. I'm doing a spiderweb block in another bee right now and we're doing it with the template and paper backing...but now I'm not sure which method I like better!
Great tute! I love that it was so easy to follow with your pictures and words on your pictures. I love the look of a spider-web block quilt. Yours looks fantastic so far!
This is great. I would like to do something with my scraps. When I've seen these before, they did paper piecing. I really don't want to remove all of that paper!
Great tute! I have made one of these blocks spring - sure was fun. I love your idea of flipping the guide back so it doesn't end up adding all that bulk with all those seams and seam allowances. Love those colors together too.
I love this quilt! This was my 1st quilt to do in years... lots of fun! I made it as a gift... now I would love to make one for myself... maybe someday :) That quilt is going to be BEAUTIFUL! :)
Thank you for doing this fab tutorial. I have many spiderweb blocks to finish, because I started many of them-- I dislike paper piecing so much and that is how the originals were made. Now I can finish the rest this way and they will all work perfectly together. How lovely! I am delighted!
Great instructions, Heather! Love the fabric and color combo - it will be gorgeous! Thank you for crediting me with the link, and for spreading the spiderweb love! ; )
Love how you don't use paper, and just the fabric as a guide. I've never seen that method before. Do you use any starch spray to keep it all square? Thanks for sharing it!
Thank you for this lovely tutorial! This actually inspired me to make a spiderweb quilt for the doll quilt swap, I am excited to try it. And I have to say, I just love the purple fabrics you have in this block. I have been trying lately to find good purple fabrics and it is hard! These are awesome.
Woooohhh! That is truly a whole of a lot of help, Thank you indeed. Not sure when I´ll be able to get my hands on actual manufacture but surely it is motivating!!! And challenging.
Heather, thank you for this awesome tutorial! I've avoided these types of blocks ever since my lonestar tragedy years ago...let's just say setting triangles aren't my forte. Now THIS I can do! Thanks again!
