i can honestly say that these were prizes that i was REALLY wanting to keep!!! Miss Jacquie's creations have kept me drooling for well over a couple years now and after seeing Market inspirations created by Miss Mo's new fabric Line { Party Dress }... i'm pretty much freaking out to get all the new prints!! ReplyDeleteHmm, no kids yet myself, but my younger cousins will be coming over for a visit in July, they are 6 and 10. I have no toys in the house other than an xbox and a wii and I don't think their parents will appreciate me getting them addicted to video games so early on. So I'm thinking of taking them out to play in the near by parks and playgrounds, and pack some picnic lunches. Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteThe kids will be kept busy by their parents!! Yeah, since I'm a grandma now I can spoil them for a couple days and send them home. But while I have them we will go to the swimming pool and have picnics with papa while he is on his lunch break at work. They really like seeing where their papa works.

ReplyDeleteI don't have any little ones of my own, but one of the best ways my parents kept me busy in the summer was teaching me how to cook and sew. Even though most of my projects never saw completion, I loved it. Eventually my sister and I got good enough to make quilts and dinners for our family.

ReplyDeleteSummer project? Teach them a craft - and it doesn't matter which one. They will learn a hobby, (hopefully with passion!), can make Christmas presents, could even learn to sell, and will keep them busy...

ReplyDeleteI was a camp counselor and did nothing but arts and crafts one summer. The run-away hit? Pet rocks. They ran around to find the perfect rock, washed and dried them, then spent several quiet, happy hours painting, putting on googly eyes and drawing faces, then coming up with leashes and carrying cases. Too cute!

ReplyDeleteWe are lucky enough to have a pool in our back yard. When my 3 were small, they lived in their swim suits and spent many long summer days in the pool. My sewing area has double garage sized windows/doors looking out at the pool. So while they swam I could both keep an eye on them AND sew! It was great! I still enjoy looking out at the pool while sewing, but sorely miss those kiddos!

I am a follower! :) As far as kiddie projects, we make super simple but messy crafts outside-then use the sprinkler or the hose to get clean and stay cool. Finger painting, bubble making and chalk drawing are among our favorites! `

ReplyDeleteMy husband made a PVC pipe toy that has T feet and a simple arch then he drilled holes in and put a couple misters on it so the kids can keep cool while they ride their bikes and play!

this summer my 5 year old and I have a mission project. We are making cloths/towels and sending them to the gulf of mexico to help in the aid to cleaning the animals who have been struck down due to the oil leak.

ReplyDeleteI am already a follower of your blog. The kids could make garden stepping stones-handprint and then put colored beads in it too. A great reminder of when they were this age.
ReplyDeleteMy 4 yr old is occupied for hours with a bin of left over craft supplies (pieces of ribbon, pipe cleaners, beads, scraps of yarn, buttons, old christmas cards, etc), scissors, and tape/glue. He will create "projects" for hours! He has his own bins of this kind of stuff in my craft room.

My kids are going to be spending abit of time this summer in the kitchen with me and then swinging hammers with Dad. They'll be going to the home improvement center and picking out new room colours and YES the fabric store to pick out fabrics for their rooms in our new house. Making new friends and hanging out with old ones. Oh and exploring their new town too!

ReplyDeleteWell, my son is still pretty young for alot of stuff (not quite two yet) but he certainly likes to interfere with mine!! We are replacing our fence this summer, though, so I have been using it to pin up paper and letting him paint outside-- no mess inside :)

ReplyDeleteGive them some sidewalk chalk and let them draw their own city in the driveway. Our kids drew a post office, grocery store, houses for each of them, etc. They then spent hours playing in their city. Selling rocks or whatever else they could find in the yard as groceries for leaf-money. When the rain washed it all away they went out and drew it again because they had had such fun!

ReplyDeleteSummer stuff for kids. Anything involving water! Swimming, water balloons, squirt guns etc. I love your blog and your work is wonderful.
ReplyDeleteShaving Creme Art is one I enjoy. Take shaving creme (I normally use Barbsol) add drops of different food coloring to it, mix it up. Don't mix too much it will blend together. Then take card stock and smoosh in the shaving creme, lift it up, and take a hard object, or Popsicle stick and rub off the excess shaving creme. Let the cards dry and then mail them to your friends. Each card is pretty and different. I even do this activity with my disabled adults I work with and they love it. Enjoy!

ReplyDeleteThis summer, I'm going to start teaching the 8 year old girl how to sew (and hopefully get her into swimming lessons) and our two year old has been having a ball getting used to the kiddie pool outside this summer. And maybe take a chance on potty training before the summer is through! (but that might not be much of a FUN activity! haha!)
ReplyDeleteI cover the patio with easel paper or butcher paper and let my kiddo have at it with paint/crayons/marker, whatever! Then, when he's done, he can run through the sprinkler to clean up!

ReplyDeleteGive the kids some tomato seeds and pots - or space in the garden, if you have one - and have them keep a garden journal. Good way to get the kids outside every day and teach them to care for living things!

ReplyDeleteGet a white pillow case. Have them run around and collect leaves and flowers. Place them inside the pillowcase (With some eye for design) Place a paperbag over the pillowcase and let them pound with a hammer. Just let them get all their energy out.
ReplyDeleteIt makes an interesting pattern on the pillowcase. Then I let them use sharpie markers to right on it. Iron it then wash it. Hours of fun.
