Grandmother Flower Garden Quilt - upDate!

i was actually feeling pretty good about my progress until seeing just how many i needed to reach my goal of { 54 in x 75 in (137 cm x 190.5 cm) sized quilt }... i better get my bootie a movin!! i have a few more hexies to make before my goal of 1097! :)
Yay!! three flowers down.... and who knows how many more to go! haha :)

these two... i lOVE....

but the third... not so much... i dunno... :( he may find his home on a pillow!

here's a quick pic of my back... and yes, i keep the paper in place ( i like them crisp! ) :) and i always use a ladder stich... so you can't see the stitch from the front. i'm even such a nuttcake that i back stitch each beginning and end of all my hexies when i join them!! this will soon be my next flower... won't she be pretty??!! Xo, Heather

  8. Love them! And yes, I leave my papers in too until the flowers are well surrounded because it makes working with the hexagons much easier, at least for me.

  9. Beautiful job on the hexies. I'm going to try the ladder stitch on mine, it really looks much neater than the whip I'm doing. Pretty fabric combos, I'm doing a scrap style with different shades of muslin inbetween. Just playing with scraps and having fun with it, the flowers petals are all the same. You've made me in the mood to pick it up again, I needed a break.

  11. Oh Heather, that is going to be one AWESOME quilt! Love the flowers that you created so far and even the one you're not so sure about. I think once the quilt is fully assembled it will blend in really well with the others! Very NICE! :-)

  14. Really beautiful! I have been using reusable hexies made out of plastic instead of paper, like template plastic. I really like them. But...I started using Civil War repro fabric, which I no longer want to spend time working on. I would love to give those hexies away to someone who would love them...

  18. I just started some of these, too. A friend gave me some already cut out for an I Spy quilt that she swore she'd never make...

So I'm playing around and trying to figure out what my favorite way of doing this will be...

Your ladder stitches are much smaller than the ones I was doing and disliking... Will have to try your way. Thanks for such detailed pictures!
