  2. My favorite gift that I've given would have to be a handmade hat that my sister had been begging me to make forever. She loved it! I'm hoping all my gifts go over as well this year.

  9. I'd have to say that my favorite thing given is an eye exam and pair of glasses for my (then very broke) sister. Boring, I know, but ridiculously practical. She enjoyed being able to better see her cross-stitching, I enjoyed her being able able to better see while driving!

  10. my favourite gifts are hand made. I made a lap quilt for the little people and they are enjoying it.

  12. I painstakingly made padded coat-hangers as a gag gift for someone - but they liked them too much for them to find it funny!

  13. I made quilts last year for my parents and my brother and his wife. They were big enough for two people to snuggle under on the couch. They were exactly the same pattern and fairly hard to difficult to quilt. I felt like I had made so many quilts for other people but hadn't made anything for my family.

    Happy holidays.

  14. thanks for the chance at a wonderful giveaway!!! i am already a follower. you have a great blog with lots of good ideas and inspiration!
my favorite gift from the past was a huge (and first) cross stitched item for my grandmother. we are native americans and it had five huge scenes featuring the lifestyle of our tribe. i had never done that before, it was over my head but i finished and it turned out good. my grandma cried. i will never forget that. it was 1987. this year it is the quilt i just finished for my daughter. she wanted to be reminded of a comforter she had as a child and i think i recreated the mood of that where she will love it.
    thanks...sorry so long.

  15. I think the favourite gift I've given will be on I'm giving this year. I just started quilting in May/June and am making my Mum a quilt for Christmas. Just by chance the fabrics (from Joel Dewberry's Chestnut Hill collection) match my Mum's new bedding set. I really hope she likes it!

  25. The year after we moved to the lake, I was having a difficult time coming up with a gift for my husband. I bought him a portable ice fishing shelter, even though he had never even talked about ice fishing. Well, since he got it, he has used it almost every single day that there was safe ice on the lake!! He loves it and I love the fresh fish we get to eat! It has to be the biggest surprise for him and the most rewarding gift I have given.

  28. I am not sure I can think of something specific, but I'm always proud when I can come up with great ideas for my husband, who is just impossible. He wants to be surprised, and so he won't give any suggestions. So I have to take notes all year on things he may want, and then he tells me what a great job I did. Then, half the time, he takes it back or never uses it. Phooey. My story is pathetic.

  62. My favorite gift I gave was a scrapbook of high school to my best friend for christmas our senior year. we had been friends since sophmore year, and had some classes freshman year. The best part was that she made a scrapbook for me that christmas as well! All of our family knew because I had asked her parents for pictures and she asked mine, but didn't tell each other. It was the best timing because if we didn't do it at the same time, it would have been akward for her to give me one or vice versa later.

  64. Hello! What a wonderful giveaway! :) To answer your question, I think my favorite christmas gift was one year I had bought a bag (to go to work) for my boyfriend and inside there was lots of other present all giftwrapped, little things, socks, a book, a dvd and a homemade knitted scarf. I thought it was a bit like opening santa's pouch! :)

Thanks for the giveaway and happy holidays! :)

It was great working without lists and not getting gift cards. I made my sister a matching kitchen set - table topper, apron, tea towel, and pot holder. It was well received :)

  70. My favourite gift I ever gave was a breadmaker to my father. He never would have bought one (at the height of the trend they were pricey and he had just been laid off). He cried when he opened it. He didn't ask for it. I just knew he wanted it. I had saved for months to buy it and had kept it a secret. Best. Gift. Ever.

  73. My favorite gift I ever gave was a year my husband and I were dirt poor, and we went to the dollar store. We sent his dad, his three brothers, and one brother-in-law dart guns wrapped individually and then tied together. The card said, "May the best man win." We wish we could have seen the free-for-all that ensued, but the reports were that everyone had a great time.

  89. I made a Asian-inspired quilted jacket for my mom. She said that she received many compliments about it. I really thought she was pulling my leg but when I went to visit and she wore it, 2 strangers remarked that it was beautiful. I watched my mom's face light up as she beamed "My daughter made it and she's right here!" I had no idea that she really cherished it that much, but to hear her talk to strangers you'd think it was made of gold!
I'm so glad I took the time, energy, and money to make that jacket (and have sent something handmade ever since).

  93. My sister and her husband are having some hard times right now between work and personal issues, and at first I was going to give them a gift card to be used for groceries, but then I found out they haven't even had the opportunity to go out and have fun together because things have been so seriously hard--either because they can't afford it or they have forgotten how to enjoy the simple things together. So, for the next six months I am sending them on mini-dates, where they will get a "mission" they have to go on, along with a gift certificate or something similar for entrance fees or what have you. That way, they have the stress of trying to figure out something to do removed, and there's a bit of adventure and mystery to it. I'm hoping that it will maybe give them a gentle shove to relearn how to have fun together, and remove some of the anxiety about paying for it. Wish me luck! I haven't lived in their city for 5 years, and am hoping the once-a-month thing gives me a chance to get some research done, ha!

  112. I'm still in process for my favorite handmade gift. It sure makes me giggle. I have an elderly aunt who has to use a walker. It has an attached basket. Another fact about her: She loves birds. I mean she loves them. So, I've bought some birdie fabric and the trimmings and at Christmas I'm going to measure her walker basket and make a nice lining for it. I think she'll get a kick out of it.

  126. Sweet give away - thanks & happy holidays! My favorite gift this season is a quilt I'm finishing for my best friend's son, who loves animals. I used fabrics from "Frolic" by Wendy Slotboom and "Full Moon Forest" by Tula Pink. I had a lot of fun making it, and I think it suits his sweet personality exactly.

  127. I think the favorite gift I gave will be the photo book from shutterfly that is waiting under my Dad's tree. I was blessed by some very special people a last chance to see him as he is dying from amyloidosis. It is a book of our too short week together. Second will be the Quilts I am making my 3 oldest girls. :) Many more blessings to you and yours.

  128. I'm hoping I get it finished so it can be my favorite gift. This year I've been working on a quilt for my husband. I've been doing it when he isn't around (stealth quilting?) so he won't know. He doesn't think I can surprise him. We've been discussing for months a quilt he'd like me to make him. I'm buying fabric and they are all sitting in a stack in my cupboard and I'm working on other things. I keep talking about in the new year...I'll make that quilt but this is part of the charade. All this deception to hopefully maybe actually surprise him for the first time in 8 years.

  129. Fave gift? hmmmm...when I went to college and had hardly any $ I purchased this beautiful framed picture for my parent's living room and set it out on Christmas Eve night, just like it came from Santa. I think they were pretty surprised.

My fave one I'm making this year? an apron and chef hat set for my niece.

The one that is sure to get the biggest yelp? My 6 year old son is going to DIE with over joy when he sees his football (dress up) gear, jersey-helmet-uniform pants-socks...the whole thing!
