Not Sewing! Ranting...

This is not my typical blog post about sewing... this is a rant about the fact that one of the most fabulous... simultaneous tasks... that I can do while sewing is about to be ruined. Yes people... it is true, Hulu will start charging a membership for their very handy, instant Internet entertainment, catch you up on all your missed TV programs with out commercials, while keeping your mind busy as you're sewing the same patterns for hours... benefit! Can you believe the nerve of them??? I kid. But still, what will I do??? Hulu seems not to even be enough anymore either... I now have a membership to Netflix, so I can rewatch certain TV shows while I'm working. Thank goodness I can count on hours of True Blood, Charmed, Sex in the City, and Buffy... I can't even imagine what my alternative is??? Books on tape??? Of course I did succumb to that while in the middle of Twilight, but please... who wouldn't have if they had custom orders and only so many hours in the day to keep their eyes open??? I mean really! Priorities people! LOL... I do honestly kid... but I would sure like to know what others do who spend hours at their machines??? I can only listen to the radio just so much!! :)

  1. I actually prefer silence while I am sewing. Once in awhile I put on Pandora.com and listen to one of my radio stations. I get tired of that after awhile and turn it off.
I just discovered HULU and now you tell me they are going to charge??? How much? I only watch two shows on it...phooey.

  3. My sewing machine is within view of the tv, so I watch/listen to whatever is on or a DVD while I sew. Books on tape sound like a great option tho, I haven't read for ages coz I don't like interruptions when I read and my eyes don't like the small print at night. Thanks for the tip, I'm off to see if I can find Twilight on tape somewhere. :-)

  4. Silence I'm afraid - it's my 'me' time away from all the noise of daily life and to have to watch TV would be a distraction and intrusion on my 'me' time!

  5. I have never heard of Hulu. What is it? I live under a rock. I am always the last know. I will have to go check this Hulu out. I listen to the radio, the 60/70's station.

  6. I am so bummed! I love Hulu too! We don't have tv so that is the only way I catch up on all my shows. I like you, have netflix too. I like to watch/listen to tv/movies while I sew too.

  8. If you just listen to shows mostly, I would recommend This American Life..it's avail on Netflix or I'm sure you can find audio versions online. Dexter can get me through just about any menial task, too!

  9. I've never watched anything on Hulu, but was considering... well, not anymore! I usually listen to talk radio, regular radio, MP3, Fox News from the tv, or good ol'silence. I'm weird though. I don't want to just LISTEN to my favorite shows, I need to WATCH them too :-) so tv and sewing don't go together in my mind. Crochet+tv YES ~haha~

  12. I actually listen to a lot of music and audiobooks (esp. the harry potter series which my husband teases me about - I listen to all 7 book at least quarterly). Either that or nothing because I'm too busy trying to sew and manage my 2 year old simultaneously.

  16. This is slightly unrelated, but judging by what you watch, have you checked out Eureka? I really enjoy Charmed and Sex in the City, and I know I am always in need of new tv shows cause I rewatch a lot of them. also, check out surfthechannel.com, but keep it a secret. The last two websites that I used to watch tv shows on were shut down quite soon after I started telling people.

  17. I like to watch tv while I sew too. I have been a fan of Hulu, and was sorry to hear of the new charges. FYI though, you can usually go to the station site (cbs, nbc, fox, usa, abc) and watch many of the same shows, even the older, not current ones. For all your shows in one place, try fancast. Not as extensive, but still has many shows. Don't give up!

  18. Oh, grrrr, Hulu. I don't watch while I sew, but we don't have television, so Hulu is my only source. And it doesn't stream well all the time, so I certainly am not going to pay money to take a chance.

Glad I still sew in silence.
